Privacy Policy
1. Who We Are
Mur is developed and published by Jamie Newman ("we", "us", "our"). If you have any questions about this policy, contact us at contact@jamie-newman.com.
2. Information We Collect
Mur is a local-first app with no account system. The information we interact with is minimal:
- Journal data: All entries, photos, and preferences are stored locally on your device. We never see or access this data.
- Analytics: Anonymised app usage analytics (via PostHog) — event data that cannot be linked back to you.
- Subscriptions: If you subscribe to Mur Pro, RevenueCat receives an anonymised app user ID and subscription status to manage entitlements.
3. How We Use Your Data
We use the limited information we collect to:
- Improve the app based on anonymised usage patterns
- Manage Pro subscriptions and entitlements
- Respond to support requests you send us
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
4. Data Stored on Your Device
Mur stores the following information locally on your device using MMKV (a high-performance key-value store):
- Journal entries — daily text entries with timestamps
- Photos — optional photo attachments (Pro feature), stored locally
- Preferences — reminder settings, theme selection, prompt preferences, and display options
- Stats — cached consistency data (days this week, month, total entries)
None of this data ever leaves your device. There is no cloud sync, no backend server, and no remote database.
5. Third-Party Services
Mur uses the following third-party services:
- PostHog — Product analytics (anonymised, EU hosting)
- RevenueCat — Subscription management and receipt validation
Mur does not use any cloud database, authentication service, or backend server. Each service above has its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them.
6. Analytics
We use PostHog (hosted in the EU) to collect anonymised usage analytics. This helps us understand how the app is used and where to focus improvements. Analytics data includes events like "entry created" or "screen viewed" but never includes your journal content, photo data, search queries, or any personally identifiable information.
You can disable analytics tracking in your device's app tracking settings.
7. In-App Purchases
Mur Pro subscriptions are managed by RevenueCat and processed by Apple through the App Store. We never see or store your payment information (credit card numbers, billing address, etc.). RevenueCat receives an anonymised app user ID and subscription status to manage entitlements.
8. Children's Privacy
Mur is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information through the app, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to remove it.
9. Data Retention and Deletion
All journal data is stored only on your device. Deleting the app removes all local data permanently — entries, photos, preferences, and stats.
Since Mur has no account system and no server-side storage, there is no remote data to delete. Your data is entirely under your control.
10. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal data:
- GDPR (EEA/UK): Right to access, correct, delete, restrict processing, and port your data.
- CCPA (California): Right to know what data is collected, request deletion, and opt out of sale (we do not sell data).
Since all journal data is stored locally on your device, it is already under your direct control. For questions about analytics data, contact us at the address below.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review the policy periodically. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
