The short version. Clearing collects nothing about you. There is no account, no analytics and no tracking. Your activities and plans stay on your device, and with Clearing Pro they can also sync through your own iCloud account. Clearing asks only for your approximate location - never your precise one - and the only network use is Apple's own weather and maps services.

1. Who We Are

Clearing is made by Jamie Newman, an independent developer in the United Kingdom. You can reach me at contact@jamie-newman.com.

2. Data We Collect

None. Clearing has no account, no sign-in and no server of its own. It contains no analytics, no crash reporting and no advertising identifier. I cannot see where you are, what you have set up, or when you open the app.

3. Location

Clearing asks for location while you are using the app, and it asks for it at reduced accuracy only. That means the position it receives is accurate to a few kilometres rather than to a street, and there is no setting anywhere in the app to change that - a forecast is the same across a town, so the precise figure would be collected for nothing.

Your position is used to fetch the weather where you are and to decide which saved place you are nearest. It is sent to Apple's weather service as part of that request and to nowhere else. It is not stored beyond the current forecast, and it never reaches me.

If you decline location, Clearing works normally: search for a place on the Places tab and everything is calculated for that place instead. Clearing shows nothing rather than guessing at a location it does not have.

4. What Clearing Stores on Your Device

Your activities and their rules, your saved places, your plans and the forecast history kept for each one, and the settings you choose, are stored in the app's own container on your iPhone, along with the most recent forecast so the app works offline. Deleting the app deletes all of it.

5. iCloud Sync (Clearing Pro)

With Clearing Pro and the iCloud toggle on, your activities, places and plans are mirrored to the private database of your own iCloud account so they appear on your other devices. That data is stored by Apple under your Apple Account, is not visible to me, and is covered by Apple's iCloud terms. Turning the toggle off stops the mirroring; the data already on each device stays there.

6. Apple Weather

Forecasts come from Apple's WeatherKit service. When Clearing fetches one, the coordinates of the place being fetched - your approximate location, or a place you saved - are sent to Apple. Apple's privacy policy covers what happens on their side. Weather data provided by Apple Weather; the attribution and Apple's legal link appear in the app.

7. Place Search

When you type into the Places search field, the text is sent to Apple Maps to turn it into a place and a time zone. Nothing else about you is sent, and if you never search, that request is never made.

8. Apple Watch and Widgets

What your watch, your widgets and the Live Activity show is calculated on your iPhone and passed to them directly on the device. Nothing passes through any server of mine.

9. Notifications

Every notification Clearing sends is a local one, scheduled on your device by the app itself. There is no push server and nothing is sent from outside your phone. Permission is asked for from the alerts row that needs it, not at launch, and Clearing works without it.

10. Calendar

Adding a plan to your calendar opens Apple's own event editor, which saves the event itself once you confirm it. Clearing is never granted calendar access and reads nothing from your calendar.

11. Purchases

Clearing Pro is an auto-renewable subscription handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. Clearing asks Apple whether a subscription is active on your Apple Account; it never sees your payment details. You can cancel at any time in Settings on your iPhone, under your name, then Subscriptions.

12. Data Sharing

I do not sell, share or transfer any personal data, because I do not have any.

13. Your Rights & Data Deletion

Your data is yours and on your devices. Delete an activity, a place or a plan in the app; delete everything by deleting the app; remove the iCloud copy from Settings on your device under iCloud, Manage Storage, Clearing.

14. Children's Privacy

Clearing is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone.

15. Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the new version will appear at this address with a new date at the top.
