Privacy Policy
1. Who We Are
Re:Count is developed and published by Jamie Newman ("we", "us", "our"). If you have any questions about this policy, contact us at contact@jamie-newman.com.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
We do not operate any servers, databases, or back-end services of our own. We do not collect:
- Your name, email address, or any other contact information
- The names or values of any counters you create
- Location data
- Health or biometric data
- Payment card details
3. Data Stored on Your Device
Re:Count stores the following information locally on your device:
- Counter data – the names, values, history, and settings of the counters you create, stored in a SwiftData database.
- App preferences – settings such as sound effects and haptic feedback, stored in the system preferences store (UserDefaults).
None of this data is transmitted to us or any third party.
4. iCloud Sync
If you are signed into iCloud on your device, your counter data is automatically synchronised across your Apple devices (iPhone, Apple Watch) using Apple CloudKit. This data is stored in your own private iCloud account under Apple's infrastructure — we have no access to it.
Apple's privacy practices are described in the Apple Privacy Policy.
5. Advertising and the Advertising Identifier (IDFA)
The free version of Re:Count displays banner advertisements served by Google AdMob. On iOS 14.5 and later, we display Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt before any advertising identifier is accessed. Your choices:
- Allow tracking – your Advertising Identifier (IDFA) is shared with Google AdMob to show personalised ads.
- Ask App Not to Track – your IDFA is not used; Google may still show contextual (non-personalised) ads based on the content of the app.
Users in the European Economic Area (EEA) and UK will additionally see a GDPR consent screen before any advertising data is processed.
Google's data practices are described in the Google Privacy Policy and the AdMob privacy FAQ.
6. Removing Ads
You can remove all advertising permanently with the Remove Ads in-app purchase. This is a one-time, non-consumable purchase processed entirely by Apple. We never see or store your payment information. Once purchased, advertising identifiers are no longer accessed by Re:Count.
7. Face ID and Touch ID
Re:Count lets you lock individual counters with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode. All biometric authentication is handled entirely by Apple's LocalAuthentication framework on your device. No biometric data is ever read, recorded, or transmitted by Re:Count.
8. Feedback
If you choose to submit feedback through the in-app feedback form, the form is hosted by Tally. Any information you voluntarily enter is subject to Tally's privacy policy. Submitting feedback is entirely optional.
9. Widgets and Apple Watch
The home screen widget and Apple Watch companion app read counter data from the same local database on your device. No additional data is collected or transmitted by these extensions.
10. Children's Privacy
Re:Count is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information through the app, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to remove it.
11. Data Retention and Deletion
All counter data is stored on your device and in your iCloud account. You can delete individual counters or all your data at any time within the app (Settings → Move All to Trash → Empty Trash). Deleting the app from your device removes its local database. To remove data from iCloud, delete the app on all devices — CloudKit records are removed automatically once no app holds a reference to the container.
12. Your Rights
Because we do not hold any of your personal data on our own servers, there is no personal data for us to provide, correct, or erase on your behalf. All data is under your direct control on your device and in your iCloud account.
If you are located in the EEA or UK and have questions about your rights under GDPR, or if you are a California resident with questions about your rights under CCPA, please contact us at the address below. We will respond within 30 days.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review the policy periodically. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
