Privacy Policy

        The short version: Tock collects nothing and sends nothing. It contains no networking code at all, so there is no server of ours, no account, no analytics and no adverts. Your tempo, your saved songs, your sets and today's practice total are written to your own iPhone and stay there. The only thing that ever leaves is a purchase, and that goes to Apple rather than to us - we never see who bought it.
      

1. Who We Are

Tock - listed on the App Store as Tock - Metronome - is developed and published by Jamie Newman ("we", "us", "our"). If you have questions about this policy, contact us at contact@jamie-newman.com.

2. Data We Collect

We collect nothing. Tock has no account system, no backend and no networking code of its own. It never asks for your name, your email address or an Apple Account, and it requests no access to your camera, microphone, photos, contacts, location, calendars or health data.

What we do not collect

No analytics or usage events of any kind - no Firebase, no Google Analytics, no PostHog, no crash-reporting service
No advertising or attribution identifiers, and no IDFA
No name, email address, Apple Account, or device identifier
No user-generated content leaves the device - the notes you write on a song are yours and stay on the phone

3. What Tock Stores on Your Device

Tock saves your settings so the app works the way you left it. That includes:

Tempo, time signature, subdivision and accent patterns (accents are remembered per time signature)
Click voice, click volume, count-in, haptics, beat flash and silent-practice preferences
Trainer settings - the ramp's start, finish, step and interval, and the gap click's bar counts
Your saved songs and sets, including any notes you write on them
A single running total of how long you have practised today

All of it is written to the app's own storage on your iPhone (UserDefaults) and nowhere else. It is not backed by any server, it is not visible to us or to anyone else, and deleting the app removes it. Today's practice total is not history: it is one number, replaced when the day rolls over, and you can clear it at any time by touching and holding it.

4. Purchases

Tock is free to download. Tock Pro is a single one-time in-app purchase, handled entirely by Apple through StoreKit. We never see your payment details, your Apple Account, or your name - Apple tells the app only whether this Apple Account owns the purchase, and Tock caches that answer on the device so a paying user never sees their own app flash locked on a cold start.

Purchases and restores are transactions between you and Apple, covered by Apple's privacy policy. Restore Purchase, on the paywall and in the Options sheet, asks Apple the same question again; it sends us nothing, because there is nowhere for it to send anything.

5. Data Storage & Security

Because everything stays on your device, it is protected by your device's own security - your passcode, Face ID or Touch ID, and iOS file encryption. Tock adds no encryption of its own and transmits nothing that could be intercepted.

Tock has no backend, no account system and no login, so there is no database of ours to breach and nothing for us to hand over to anyone.

Tock requests no system permissions at all. It plays audio in the background - which is what a metronome is for - and keeps the screen awake while it is running, neither of which requires a permission prompt.

6. Third-Party Services

There are none. Tock contains no third-party SDKs, frameworks or libraries - no analytics, no crash reporter, no advertising or attribution networks, no payment processor of ours, no CloudKit container. The only Apple framework in the app that talks to the outside world is StoreKit, and only when you buy or restore Tock Pro.

The click itself is synthesised in code. There are no audio assets in the app and nothing is ever downloaded - Tock works exactly the same in aeroplane mode as it does on wi-fi.

7. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent or share your personal data with anyone, for any purpose. We have none of it to share.

We do not use advertising SDKs and do not request NSUserTrackingUsageDescription, so you will never see an App Tracking Transparency prompt from Tock. We do not cross-reference your activity across apps.

Tock's App Store privacy label reads Data Not Collected, and the app ships a privacy manifest that declares no tracking and no collected data types.

8. Notifications

Tock sends no notifications of any kind - local or push - and never asks for notification permission. There are no practice reminders and no streaks to defend.

9. Your Rights & Data Deletion

There is nothing for us to delete, because we hold nothing. We cannot look up "your" data, because none of it ever reaches us
Inside the app you can delete individual songs and sets, and reset today's practice total by touching and holding it
Deleting the app removes every setting, song and set along with it. There is no server copy to clean up afterwards
A purchase is not deleted with the app - it belongs to your Apple Account. Reinstall and tap Restore Purchase to get Tock Pro back

10. Children's Privacy

Tock is rated 4+ and contains no advertising, no external links, no chat and no user content shared with anyone. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 - it does not collect personal information from anyone at all. Tock does contain one optional in-app purchase, which is subject to your device's Screen Time and purchase restrictions. If you believe a child has provided personal information through Tock, please contact us.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time - in particular if a future version of Tock adds long-term practice history or any form of sync, either of which would change what is stored and where. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date before the version that needs them is released. Continued use of Tock after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
